From Truth to Imagination: An Historical Journey

Local author Linda Kass will discuss the transition a writer makes from historical fact to a work of fiction. In her presentation Linda will share the events of her mother’s life during World War II in Poland and will talk about how these events influence her new novel, Tasa’s Song. Linda has been seen around the United States introducing her book, but her presentation to CJHS will bring a different perspective to this work, lending itself to the mission of the Columbus Jewish Historical Society. How are the facts of a family’s history interwoven with stories we tell, oral traditions, and hard historical fact?

A musical component, pairing young violinists with music envisioned by the author for Tasa, the novel’s main character, will further enrich this experience. Integrated into Linda’s talk will be the music of Suzuki Music Columbus. The talented violinists from Suzuki will perform pieces that might have been played by Tasa, a violin prodigy, at different points in her young life.

Readers and music lovers of all ages can appreciate this presentation, which will be held at the Jewish Community Center. In his review of the novel, Patrick  Losinski, Chief Executive Officer of the Columbus Metropolitan Library, said, “Linda Kass is an accomplished storyteller. Tasa’s Song captures the human suffering and personal triumphs of those most deeply impacted by World War II and its aftermath.”
