As we moved into our new CJHS Archive, we came across a special treasure – a film reel labeled “Sunday Morning League Baseball 1946-1947 Champs” donated by Marvin and Babette Whitman and filmed by their friend, Sol Shaman.  Once we had it digitized, we were thrilled to see a full-color record of the league in all its glory. Jewish men who would not play in the Saturday city leagues established the “Jewish Recreation League” in 1930. It became a hit with young Jewish athletes, sports fans and local businesses who sponsored the teams and their uniforms. Leadership from community members such as Don Shusterman and Lou Berliner sustained the league and promoted it in community newspapers.  The Sunday morning leagues continued into the 80s.
